Compliance Monitoring

In aviation, compliance monitoring and safety management are both essential for ensuring safe and efficient operations, but they serve distinct purposes and focus on different aspects of safety oversight.

Compliance monitoring in aviation refers to the systematic process of ensuring that all aviation operations, procedures, and activities adhere to regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices. This function is critical in maintaining safety, quality, and regulatory compliance within aviation organisations, which include airlines, maintenance organizations, and air navigation service providers.

Over the years, SIG Aviation has gained experience in compliance monitoring on all sides of the table. We have performed multiple regulatory compliance audits on behalf of Civil Aviation Authorities but also developed, implemented and maintained modern compliance monitoring systems for a variety of operators and maintenance organisations.

Next to this, we have been tasked to act as intermediary between CAA and organisation in cases where the stakes of uncorrected non-compliances were high. Thanks to our pragmatic approach we typically manage to develop corrective action plans that honour the regulatory and commercial aspects in a balanced manner. That makes our approach unique.

Takeoff

1

Ad-hoc need for Nominated Person Compliance Monitoring

An organisation holding certificates for Part-145, CAMO and AOC, was unexpectedly in urgent need for a Nominated Person Compliance Monitoring. SIG Aviation fulfilled initially that position for 6 months. Due to the positive experience gained, the organisation in question has been subcontracting compliance monitoring to SIG Aviation since.

2

Preparation for an EASA Part-TCO approval

A non-EU based operator applied for a a Part-TCO (Third Country Operator) approval from EASA. The operator requested SIG Aviation to prepare and restructure the Quality Assurance Program into a modern Compliance Monitoring system. We provided the content for their manuals, a computerised system and performed multiple preparation audits.

3

Training for CAA staff on Compliance Monitoring

A Civil Aviation Authority requested a tailor made training on EASA compliance monitoring for its inspectors and staff . We developed a specific training to cover this request, and added an on-the-job learning program for flight operations inspectors involved in compliance audits. Our instructor went beyond to deliver a packed course full of practical examples and scenarios.
